In England there are driving instructors who tell you once you pass your test you can drive however you like.
My in-service trainer at Arriva (the bus division in England) told me the same thing. He didn't realise my background, however.
Recently I was being tailgated by a woman with her young daughter in her car. She became furious when I slowed for two cyclists ahead of me and waited for a straight piece of road where I could see to pass them safely.
She continued to tailgate me (flashing her headlights and all) for several miles.
Then, on the other side of the road there were the flashing lights of a police rescue truck.
A cyclist had been run down by a truck.
That was the moment this woman driver smartened up.
She slowed down and kept a safe distance after that.
Hopefully, she will remember the lesson.
